Bamboo satin care
You’ve finally taken the plunge and adopted Salomé, and you’re wondering how to care for bamboo satin ? Then welcome !
Washing
Caring for bamboo satin couldn’t be easier !
Wash at low or lukewarm temperatures (between 30°C and 40°C), using a delicate-wash program. Use a mild detergent, without bleach or fabric softener (which can damage the fibers). And above all, don’t overload your machine, to avoid excessive friction !
Bamboo satin care also involves drying
We can’t stress this enough : natural drying is better for your linen, and for the planet ! On the other hand, bamboo satin should be dried away from direct sunlight, as this can cause colors to fade and fibers to become brittle.
If you’re tumble-dryer fan, no problem ! But only if necessary, and only occassionally. Use a gentle or delicate cycle ! And abov all (be prepared for some good advice), take your linen out slightly damp to minimize wrinkling.
What about ironing ?
Bamboo satin does wrinkle a little. You can iron at a low temperature, and on the reverse side to avoid shiny marks.
If bamboo satin isn’t properly cared for, there are a few risks !
Several forms of wear and tear can occur if you don’t look after your bamboo satin properly, but of course, I’ve got advice for you !
- Pilling : This is caused by repeated friction with other textiles or abrasive objects, as well as the use of harsh detergents. As a preventive measure, you can wash your items separately, or with soft materials (avoid towels or other rough fabrics). Use a mild detergent and avoid overdosing !
- Loss of softness : Common when using fabric softener (I know, it’s contradictiry), or washing temperatures that are too high. You can replace fabric softeners with a touch of white vinegar (it removes detergent residues without damaging the fibers).
- Fiber brittleness : Caused by sun-drying or frequent use of the tumble-dryer at high temperatures. So dry your laundry outdoors, in the shade.
- Discoloration : Caused by prolonged exposure to the sun, and the use of abrasive chemicals (bleach, strong stain removers). If your product is stained, you can use baking soda or Marseille soap.
- Creasing or shiny marks : Occurs when ironing at too high a temperature or storing incorrectly. Iron at low temperature, inside out, or with a press cloth (if you don’t know what that is, look here), and fold carefully.
2 additional tips :
Pre-wash, as with any other textile range, is super important ! Washing your clothes before their first use will improve their softness and absorbency.
For storage, I advise you to store your linen in a dry, well-ventilated place, to avoid the appearance of mildew (you never know…).
I hope my little tips have given you some insight into the care of bamboo satin, and that you’ve understood the importance of taking good care of it. With the right care, your fabric will retain its softness and elegance for years to come !
