Caring for cotton flannel

If you’ve ever wondered how to care for cotton flannel, you’ve come to the right place ! And even if you’re not familiar with cotton flannel, you’ll have all the information you need to convince you to take the plunge here !

The story : what is cotton flannel ?

I’ll keep it short ! This fabric originated in Wales in the 17th century. Originally, it was made from wool, to withstand the harsh winters. Then, after the industrial revolution, flannel was made from cotton.

The manufacturing process is very simple : first, the material is woven (i’m not telling you anything yet) ! Then it’s brushed to give it that fluffy effect.

At L’effet papillon, cotton flannel is used in our Candice collection. if you don’t know what Candice looks like, click here !

My best tips for caring for cotton flannel

First of all, before each use, wash your item (you’re not sure where it’s been during transport). Flannel should be washed inside out, at 30°/ 40°, ideally on its own to limit rubbing. Above all, forget fabric softener, which promotes pilling ! And finally, you can tumble dry, but we’re thinking of the planet here (otherwise, you can use it at a moderate temperature) !

As I said above, cotton flannel is brushed to give it its softness. But its strong point is also its weak point, let me explain ! It’s a fabric that puddles easily, due to friction with other textiles or the skin. Rest assured, over time, no more pilling !
